To place an order first choose your reel by visiting the Reels Page (follow the link below) and add it to the cart. Then choose from the myriad of different options listed below & design your very own "Alternative" Abel.
When you've finished add the details of your order to one of the carts you'll find on the page. The cart's all have instructions to help you through the process. Once you have completed your order I will contact you and let you know what delivery time to expect.

Our Heart and Soul
Reel frame, spool, drag knob and foot – 6061-T651 cold finished aerospace grade aluminum offers a strength level similar to mild steel. The cold finishing process dramatically increases the molecular density and creates a stronger metal. The fact that it costs twice as much as the industry standard extruded aluminum doesn’t prevent us from manufacturing our reels with the top material available.
Sealed Bearings
Manufactured by Pacamar/Kubar near Albany, New York. Precision bearings are ISO9001:2000 and AS9100 Certified FAA TSO C149 Aircraft Bearings, built to the highest manufacturing standards with specific characteristics developed for demanding aerospace and military applications consisting of 440C stainless steel balls with stainless steel rings.
Wood handles
A wood composite known as DymondWoodTM made for us in Rutland, Vt. Handles have the physical and mechanical properties of high-density hardwoods, acrylics, polycarbonate plastics and brass with compression strength of 25,600 psi. Available in Rosewood, Walnut, Zebra or Ebony.
Aluminum Handles
Manufactured with a slip-resistant knurled finger grip and fitted with hand-pressed Delrin® for smooth cranking. Their weight precisely matches the weight of the counter weight. They won’t chip, fracture, expand, contract, splinter or snap no matter the temperature or conditions. Available in all finishes.
Cork Drag System
Designed for the Super Series Quick Change (QC), Super Series and Anti/Reverse reels and made entirely in our factory. It’s the most proven, heavily tested and simplest drag system in the industry: the cork drag plate compresses and serves as a brake. We use a superior grade of Portuguese cork with a drop or two of neat’s-foot oil. We have over 20-year old loaner and rental reels at lodges and fish camps throughout the world that prove their durability daily.
Pawl Click Drag System
Designed for the Trout Series (TR) and Abel Creek reels. Consists of a triangle-shaped pawl made of 303 heat treated stainless steel that is locked into place by two small hex cam nuts, .35 diameter pawl spring, and spring retainer. It is faultless perfection personified and brings a memorable click sound to a trout running hell-bent for cover.
Anodizing
Our anodizing is proprietary and the envy of the metallurgical world. Anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process utilizing chemicals and dyes. All anodizing is done in our factory by our talented artists, all Fish Graphic and custom designed reels are individually hand painted.
Hand Polished and De-burred
We’re the world’s only manufacturer of fly-fishing reels that Hand Polishes every part of every reel.
Manufacturing Process
The same machines and tools used to manufacture parts for our Military and Aerospace Industries make Abel Reels. Our state-of-the-art machine shop includes CNC mills, CNC lathes, Swiss screw machines and other job shop tools. We design, engineer, prototype and manufacture every component in the USA.
