Charles Clemes FLY REELS
The Charles Clemes Model 278 Fly Reels, are an exercise in making a quintessentially English high quality fly reel, with the emphasis on traditional design and craftsmanship. They are made in England and produced by Charles Clemes who are the fly fishing tackle division of London gunsmiths Anderson Wheeler, based in Mayfair.
It took them four years of research and talking with professional guides and experienced English tackle makers to develop their Charles Clemes range of fly fishing accessories, fly reels, bamboo and graphite rods and this shows in the quality, craftsmanship and functionality that can be seen throughout their product range. This attention to detail is not unusual in gunsmiths, but harder to find in fly fishing tackle.

The Model 278 captures the essential elements of a classic single action fly reel, a fine balance of function, beauty and ergonomic design. Each reel is hand turned at our workshop in Redditch, England. The 278 gets its characteristic sound from our unique adjustable spring and pawl drag system, which provides a directional click, with the outgoing click louder than the incoming. The spool runs in both ball race and Phosphor bronze bearings.
Deriving its name from its 2 7/8” diameter the reel makes an ideal match for any of our freshwater split cane or carbon rods. With its wide drum width the 278 provides plenty of capacity for both silk and modern fly lines. Available in two models to match #3/4 and #5/6 line weights the reels can be easily converted for your choice of left or right hand wind. The reels feature tapered nickel silver pillars and a sunken counter balance which can be engraved with your choice of initials or family crest.
All reels are presented in a custom built wooden display case which can be engraved with your choice of initials or family crest and soft leather pouch.
