Leen Huismann is justly famous for his titanium fly reels but not so well known for his bamboo fly rods.
Thats a shame because, like everything that he makes, his rods are beautifully crafted, with a distinctive aesthetic appeal and style that is uniquely Leen's own.
Leen makes rods for just about all possible fishing situations and has developed his tapers through many years of practical fishing experience and experimentation. So his rods, like his reels are not just objects of beauty but also proven fishing instruments.

Leen is also able to offer a very wide range of special options to order which include; special tapers, spinning or carp rods, bespoke wooden rod cases, engraved reel fittings, choices of exotic reel seat woods and whipping colours, etc. etc. etc...

Leen Huismann on the L.H.Design Programme
The L.H. Design programme is based on two principles. On the one hand there is the firm belief that "a thing of beauty is a joy forever", and L.H. Design fly rods and fly reels are trying to prove that saying true. On the other hand it goes without saying that the functional aspects of the design should certainly not be forgotten. Every craftsman knows that perfection is always one step away, yet the L.H. Design program is certainly striving for perfection. Now, and in the future, L.H. Design will be a guarantee for balanced design and craftsmanship.
All of these rods were designed over a period of years and a lifetime of experience has gone into the building of them. They are in use all over the world and have proved to be highly reliable fishing instruments.

As a last point of interest I would like to draw your attention to some of the listed models that are special to me, personally. A rod builder sometimes finds that after designing and building a rod he immediately develops a great liking for it. This was the case with the following models:
- the 7 Ft # 5 (*) (2-piece and 3-piece model). Genuine general purpose rods. These are the rods to accompany you on most fishing trips. The 3-piece version was developed from the 2-piece model. They are powerful rods, but sensitive. Highly recommended.
- the 61/2 Ft range 3-piece # 1/2, # 2/3 and # 3/4. Very similar to the above rods, i.e. similar in character. Medium action. They are not 'distance rods', but are wonderful light casting instruments.
- the 7'9" # 5 3-piece. A powerful rod, yet with very accurate casting.
- the 10 Ft 3-piece # 7 and 11 Ft 3-piece #8.Last, but certainly not least. These rods are both two-handed rods. Excellent for fishing medium sized salmon and sea trout in classic style. A pleasure to cast.

These rods all have a pleasant, moderate action. Some models, however, (indicated by (*)) have a significantly stiffer action.
The standard rods are constructed from the very best bamboo (arundinaria amabilis Mc.Clure, split and hand-planed) with nickel silver ferrules and high quality hard chrome rings.
The rods are dip varnished two or three times. Every rod comes in an aluminium tube, with one tip, in a tasteful rod bag. Leather rod tubes are available for an additional £115.

Leenu ses a specialist grinding/polishing tool polish the inner surface of his Tungsten stripping guides on his light fly rods, to a mirror finish. This means a classic, minimalist look combined with full protection for ANY fly line, and avoids the risk of a lost or damaged lining.
